Job Description

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Language Assistance Services, provides Sign Language interpretations on-site between patients and health care providers and other staff, including consent forms.  Additionally provides support to the department as needed.  Interpreter is alert to problematic situations (e.g. breakdowns in communication, lack of information) and suggests appropriate solutions before problems arise whenever possible.  Is responsible for delivering the highest quality of service.  Must be responsive to individuals and departments and must demonstrate a team approach.  Communicates with the Coordinator to review and resolve complaints regarding to language service issues.  Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information as directed by HIPPA.  Performs other duties as assigned.  Requirements are a minimum of an Associate's Degree that includes ASL as an undergrad area of study.  Must be nationally certified by the RID (Registry for the Deaf); preferably both CI and CT certified or any subsequent equivalent of certification released after CI and CT certifications.  Some computer experience in either MS Word and/or Excel.
