Job Description

Under the supervision of the Faculty Practice Administrative Supervisor, assists the Emergency Medicine team with daily operations in the Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Department (E.D.) Assists physicians and other practitioners with the discharge of patients from the E.D. by coordinating follow up care. Supports the medical staff in managing the documentation of patients by scanning in reports and other necessary documents. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Reviews chart documentation for appropriate teaching physician requirements. Verifies physician signature on completed charts. Informs physician about missing information.

-Scans patient information into EPIC. Forwards documents to registration area.

-Obtains and scans information provided by EMS into the patients’ EPIC record. 

-Interacts with physicians and Emergency Room personnel in performance of discharge duties.

-Coordinates follow up care of patients as they are discharged from the E.D. Makes follow-up appointments in the required clinic.

-Checks patients’ insurance to verify eligibility and benefits to determine if there are any Managed Care issues. 

-Attends monthly staff meetings.

-Maintains strict confidentiality.

-Performs any and all related duties as directed by supervisor.

-Required to work varied shifts, days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

-Requires a professional level of knowledge and understanding that is acquired through the completion of two years of college or equivalent work experience.

-Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Health Care Systems.

-Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
-Must have excellent organizational skills. 

-Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with medical, clerical and administrative staff.
