Roles & Responsibilities:
 
Under the direction of the Director code, evaluate physician documentation and provide feedback of findings to physicians and ancillary staff. This information will assist the Director in enhancing physician education in order to target areas of process improvement as it pertains to coding, reimbursement, billing, and charge capture. Ensure that the department is in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations with respect to coding and billing.
 
  1. Code (ICD-9, CPT-4, Modifiers) multi-specialty physician documentation prior to claim submission.  Areas of focus Medicine Inpatient and Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical Procedures. These could vary.
 
2.         Perform both prospective and retrospective audits as assigned. Analyze medical record documentation for appropriateness of services and service levels billed. Identify areas of lost revenue and recommend better documentation/coding practices.
 
3.         Ensure timely submission of all Multi-specialty charges to McKesson. Contact Departments and inform Director of delinquent areas or providers affecting charge capture targets.
 
4.         Maintain files/statistics of findings per department and physician for review with Director on a monthly basis.
 
5.         Analyze coding denials and identify trends and resolutions.
 
 
Requirements:
 
 
High School Diploma/GED
CPC Certification from the AAPC or AHIMA in good standing.
Four years minimum coding experience in a Multi-Specialty Faculty Practice, or equivalent preferred.
Two years surgical multi-specialty coding experience required.
Knowledge of physician billing and claims processing highly preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Proficient in Excel, Micro Soft Word and Power Point.
