Speech & Language Pathologist
Under administrative supervision of the Regional Director of Hearing and Speech service and direct professional supervision of the Regional Chief Speech Pathologist. Performs and interprets swallowing, speech, language, and voice diagnostic testing in accordance with established protocols. Counsels patients and families as to test results; interacts with referring physicians and prepares diagnostic reports. Provides dysphagia, speech, language, and voice therapies to relevant patients. Completes all appropriate medical documentation. Participates in training or in-service education programs.
-Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of speech language pathologists to acquire knowledge of assessment and treatment of dysphagia and communication disorders involving language, fluency, voice and articulation; use of equipment; and counseling, ordinarily acquired via Master’s Degree. Completion of CFY is required.
-New York State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist is mandatory.
-Very high level of analytical ability required to effectively and expeditiously diagnose and treat communication disorders including cognitive communicative, voice, language, feeding and swallowing for culturally diverse patient populations. Previous experience with head and neck cancer required. Effective time management for punctual documentation is also required.
-Interacts with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in the course of routine clinical duties. High degree of responsibility required for daily contacts with patients and their families.
-Some manual dexterity required for manipulation of testing or treatment materials and equipment.
