Roles & Responsibilities:
The  Director of Social Services position provide direction and supervision to the Social Services staff as a whole, so as to ensure effective delivery of social work services in order to meet required objectives. The Director of Social Services will act in compliance with all state, federal and other regulatory standards and participate in the quality improvement process of the hospital.
  • Oversees the day-to-day department operation of all in-patient and ambulatory social workers and supportive staff.
  •  Oversees the formulation and coordination of patient discharges.
  •  Develops, implements and manages the provision of policies and procedures within the hospital.
  • Understands NYS Department of Health’s regulations concerning hospital discharge planning and all other related regulations, such as child protection policies, domestic violence protocols and etc.
  • Recruits, selects and hires staff.
  • Oversees the staff development, advancement, disciplinary action, dismissal and annual evaluation.
  • Provides consultation to social work staff and other disciplines regarding the psychosocial need of patients.
  • Prepares department’s annual budget and administers expenditures within hospital finance department’s guideline.




Master Degree in Social Work (MSW)







  1. Five years supervisory experience in health care, preferably in an acute or long term setting.
  2. Skilled in the ability to supervise
  3. Good organizational and interpersonal skills
