Job Description

Two federally funded Postdoctoral Fellow - Research Associate positions are available to study CNS mechanisms regulating lesion formation and repair in inflammatory diseases of the brain and spinal cord. This work will focus on identifying new therapeutic avenues for multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune demyelinating condition which is the most common non-traumatic cause of paralysis in young adults in the US, Canada and Western Europe.
• One position will study the role of a novel transcription factor in promoting lesion repair (remyelination) in models of MS.

• The second position will study mechanisms controlling access of inflammatory cells across the blood-brain barrier into the CNS parenchyma in lesions in MS models.

Core techniques in use in the laboratory include primary culture and co-culture of CNS-resident cell lineages, particularly astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and endothelial cells, genome-scale analyses (RNA-seq and ChIP-seq) of responses of these populations to inflammatory stimuli, and in vivo validation using conditional knockout models and human samples.
Interested candidates should have a recent PhD or MD degree, a strong background in molecular and cellular neurobiology, and good scientific writing skills.
