Job Description

The Physician Assistant in Ob/Gyn functions as a mid-level health care provider in Obstetrics and Gynecological Services. These services include the following clinics: Prenatal, Gyn Surgery, Infertility, Colposcopy, Adolescent and Women’s Health Services and urogyncology oncology clinic. In addition to inpatient gynecology service activity.             

Duties and Responsibilities:

-To evaluate, diagnose and provide prenatal care to uncomplicated pregnant patients.

-To evaluate, diagnose and provide prenatal care to uncomplicated pregnant patients.

-To treat routine medical problems common to pregnancy.

-To diagnose and treat gynecologic problems (abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, vaginal infections, sexually transmitted diseases, menopause, etc.).

-Make appropriate referrals for complicated gyn patients requiring surgery.

-To function as a primary care provider for the Women’s Health Service Clinic, by providing a full range of diagnostic services and treatment to common primary health care problems encountered by pregnant women and non-pregnant women.

-May assist with training and orientation of residents/ students from various departments. To assist on the inpatient management of Ob and Gyn patient.

-Surgically assist in minimally invasive and open gynecologic surgical procedures.
Other duties as assigned by the director of service.

-Physician Assistant is to be licensed by New York State, a graduate of an AMA approved P.A. Program and possess certification in primary care and or surgical care by the NCCPA.

-Basic Computer skills required.

-Physician Assistant must be able to provide a full range of medical skills to diagnose and treat patients to provide competent medical care.

-Must possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
