Per Diem Dialysis Technician

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Head Nurse/ADN for the area and the direct supervision of the nurse(s)-in-charge (HHC), follows clearly established procedures in order to perform routine technical duties necessary for the safe and efficient preparation and operation of dialysis equipment for the Renal Service section of Medicine. Maintains dialysis equipment and area supplies, contributing support to continuity of patient care and highest operational standards.

-Requires a level of Knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a high school education or equivalent.
-Must be certified as a Hemodialysis Technician by The Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT).

-Title requires at least six months prior training, and /or experience in Hemodialysis procedures; specific procedures may be learned on the job(incumbent may enter as Hemodialysis Trainee, and receive full “Technician” status after six months.

-Work requires attention to routine details such as solution mixes, equipment monitoring procedure, etc. Basic level of analytical ability necessary in order to support other members of the health team in rendering safe patient care.

-Interacts with dialysis patients, physicians, nurses and other hospital staff; should have ability to communicate effectively regarding equipment and area procedures, etc.

-Incumbent should have physical strength necessary for the lifting and transporting of patients. Work requires and lifting and moving supplies for operations.
