Roles & Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant is an individual who functions in a support role to the Clinical team by providing direct patient care and related activities as assigned. As a medical assistant, one must be able to multi-task while at the same time focus on the details of proper identification of patients to ensure their safety, label all specimens correctly in accordance with the hospital policy and procedures established by the laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. 1. Assist the primary care provider and specialists with the physical examination of patients as needed.
2. 2. Escort patient to the examination room and instructs patients on the preparation for examination. Assist in the disrobing and dressing after examination is completed if necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort.
3. 3. Responsible for the accurate recording of the patient vital signs; heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and weight of patient.
4. 4. Order supplies and restock supplies in all patient examination rooms. Rotate and check all the examination rooms for expiration of supplies. Maintain the condition of examination rooms for expiration of supplies. Maintain the condition of the examination rooms between patient visits for cleanliness as well as necessary supplies to ensure Joint Commission and DOH compliance.
5. 5. Perform venipuncture, including preparing necessary supplies for blood drawing, verifying patient identification and observing blood drawing procedures and protocol at all times.
6. 6. Make appropriate copies of EKG tracings if needed. Distribute original tracings and copies according to established hospital policy.
7. 7. Instruct patient on the collection of laboratory specimens. Be responsible for the labeling of these specimens.
8. 8. Assist in the maintenance and care of departmental equipment for preventative maintenance


- Education:

High School Diploma/GED.

Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or equivalent training and experience.

1 year as Medical Assistant
