Roles & Responsibilities:
sterilization and decontamination support to the Operating Room. Using appropriate methods, will decontaminate
all surgical instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Operates all decontamination equipment (washers,
ultrasonic unit, etc.). Will inspect and
assemble all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Uses the appropriate packaging methods in
preparation of instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for sterilization. Identifies and packages all items to be gas
sterilized. Operates sterilization units
(pre-vac units, flash units, sterrad, etc.).
Sterilizes instrument sets and other reusable supplies and equipment. Performs the required quality assurance
checks on sterilization units (Biological, Bowie Dick Tests, etc). Maintains records of quality assurance checks
with sterilization records. Interprets
sterilization graphs/printouts and other indicators. Transports sterilized supplies to appropriate
storage areas and restocks shelves. Must
possess knowledge of all supplies and equipment maintained by the
department. Distributes supplies to
nursing care units and other departments as required. Must check expiration dates and package
integrity before storage and distribution.
May be required to perform other duties as required. High school diploma or GED required. Two years’ experience and must be IAHCSMM
certified. Must have excellent
communication skills and follow written and verbal instructions.
