Postdoctoral positions are available immediately to join Volsky Laboratory in Medicine/Infectious Diseases, at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. The fellows will be involved in the design, implementation, and analysis of in vitro and in vivo experiments to study the virological and neuropathological mechanisms of HIV induced cognitive disease in mice using virological, molecular-biological, neurobiological, and animal-behavioral techniques. Studies in mice will employ chimeric, mouse-tropic HIV-1 and will include construction and evaluation (in vitro and in vivo) of new chimeric viruses, analysis of mouse cells and tissues, confocal microscopy, and culture and evaluation of primary lymphoid and brain-derived cells. Participation in ongoing studies on HIV-1 replication in mice, latent HIV reservoirs in vivo, nano-medicine based antiviral therapy, and preclinical testing of interventions for cognitive impairment will be encouraged. It is anticipated that the fellows will contribute both intellectually and technically to these research efforts and will be expected to communicate his/her research effectively to colleagues and peers.
Ph.D. in Virology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Immunology, or related discipline is required, proficiency in written and spoken English is required. The successful applicant will have demonstrated technical expertise in the study of viral pathogenesis in vitro and, ideally, in animal models. Also expertise is essential in molecular virology and molecular biology or in neurobiology. Further experience in animal behavioral experiments and animal models of brain disease or in genomics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, and immunohistochemistry is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to design and carry out complex analyses with minimal supervision.
Applicants who meet the requirements listed above are invited to send their curriculum vitae and the names and addresses of three references to
