Stamford Hospital is a newly constructed, world-class regional academic medical center which opened in September, 2016.  The Department of Surgery offers comprehensive surgical services in all subspecialties and performs between 8000 and 9000 cases per year at the main hospital campus and the nearby Tully Health Center outpatient surgical facility.  The state-of-the art operating rooms are equipped with hybrid imaging, minimally invasive, and surgical robotic capabilities.  The Department has a freestanding, high-quality general surgical residency program with rotating medical students and is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

The Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center (BCC) at Stamford Hospital is a member of the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Care Collaborative. The BCC provides the highest clinical standard of care in an unparalleled warm and supportive environment, providing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and support services in one location.  At the BCC, multidisciplinary teams are led by board-certified physicians and include radiation therapists, oncology nurses, nurse navigators, and a fulltime cancer genetic counselor.  Approximately 1000 new cancer patients are diagnosed at Stamford Hospital each year.  The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has acknowledged Stamford Hospital’s Cancer Program as providing high quality care to cancer patients in all six defined categories by awarding us the prestigious Gold Outstanding Achievement Award.

The BCC Clinical Trials program provides a broad range of high-quality studies focused on the needs of our communities. We are driven to provide our patients the opportunity to participate in the same studies as those found at the nation’s major cancer centers. We offer NCI trials, pharmaceutical studies, and protocols written by our researchers, giving our patients access to leading edge chemotherapy, biotherapy and immunotherapy treatments.
