What You'll Do:

As part of the Office for Excellence in Patient Care (OEPC) at Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH), the Director of Performance Excellence will work collaboratively with leadership and staff across the MSH to achieve outstanding performance in the areas of patient safety and quality of care. The Director will be responsible for identifying and prioritizing improvement initiatives, forming cross-functional teams, achieving data-driven results, and reporting-out to senior leadership on progress, achievements and barriers. In this role, he/she:

  • Serves as a strategic partner to the Hospital Chief Medical Office (CMO) in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures, programs, and initiatives that support the mission, growth and success of MSH.
  • Leads the operational of quality and patient safety programs under the direction of the CMO by working collaboratively with hospital leadership including physicians, nurses and clinical teams.
  • Identifies, develops and implements best-practices, evidence-based care and tools for improvement, plan execution, and project management.  
  • Leverages clinical and administrative data to support the identification of quality issues and improvement opportunities, drive prioritization and decision making and monitoring; prepares reports and analysis associated with the quality improvement programs for stakeholders.
  • Participates and supports the selection of effective, measurable operational planning targets that fosters sustainable improvements in the quality of patient care.
  • Recommends changes in operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the organization’s guidelines; Ensures activities are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and/or requirements.
  • Manages a team of junior staff by providing professional oversight and supervision to ensure professional growth and development while supporting the mission of the OEPC.
  • Provides technical assistance, consultation and education to hospital departments relative to meeting program objectives.
  • Builds and promotes positive working relationships with all stakeholders to foster successful project implementation.
  • May chair and/or participate in hospital quality committees.
  • Leads special projects as assigned by the Hospital CMO.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health related field is required 
  • Master’s degree is preferred, MPH or MBA
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience including 3 years of progressive leadership responsibilities
  • 5 years of experience in an acute care hospital with demonstrated success in the use of data-driven methodologies, analytics and statistics to meet goals in patient safety or quality improvement initiatives
  • Project management experience in a clinical environment on projects that directly and/or indirectly impact clinician workflow
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable results and managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical in nature with a curiosity towards solving complex problems, and strong attention to detail
  • Professional attitude – comfortable working in a clinical setting populated by diverse types of people and able to maintain poise and a sense of humor in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and  communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proven ability to work both independently on projects and as part of the larger team
  • Strong computer literacy including intermediate Excel
