What You’ll Do:
 

The Grants & Contracts Specialist is a key resource in the Department of Psychiatry, providing budgetary and administrative guidance in the preparation, submission, processing, and management of research grants and contract proposals, awards, and agreements for researchers in the department. The Grants & Contracts Specialist is also responsible for assuring the administration of sponsored programs related to research is in compliance with federal, state and private agency rules and regulations. S/he works as part of the Administrative team to support the research endeavor in the Department of Psychiatry and may work on special projects as assigned by the Administrative Manager for Research or the Department Administrator.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide pre-review and assistance in preparation of grant applications to multiple funding agencies (e.g., NIH, DoD, ARMY, foundation, internally funded). This includes budget preparation, compliance with funding opportunity announcements and internal and external policies and guidelines.
 
  • Serve as Department’s trainer and trouble shooter for Institution’s grant management software (currently infoEd) as well as external grant-related interfaces (eRA Commons, grants.gov, etc.). Provide development support for and act as liaison to the Mount Sinai infoEd/Sinai Central teams.
 
  • Communicate with, and respond to, administrative and budgetary inquiries from Grants Management Officers of Federal Agencies during grant review, Just-In-Time requests, and supplemental and amended information inquiries.
 
  • Assist with setup of awarded grants by providing appropriate documentation to Sponsored Projects Accounting/Finance and Department financial administrators
 
  • Management of subcontracts for awarded grants. Coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure subcontracts are established in a timely way and maintained throughout the award.
 
  • Prepare and maintain Other Support pages for multiple investigators of varying complexity. E.g., multiple research appointments.
 
  • Assist with management of all award files, including applications, award notices and relevant communication.
 
  • Serve as a liaison between Department and several internal offices: Grants and Contracts, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Finance, Research IT.
 
  • Participate in special projects as needed.
 
  • Performs other related duties as requested/assigned
 
 
What You’ll Bring:
 
  • Bachleor’s degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with full grant life cycle
  • Prior experience with NIH academic research grants and infoEd/grants.gov or other grant management software a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to work effectively on multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team
