What You’ll Do:
This is a great opportunity to conduct research in a highly innovative and growing Epigenetics lab in a top-ranked medical school, while learn hands-on cutting edge experiments, sequencing methods and analyses. Excellent funding is in place and this is a position with a long-term outlook.

Our lab pioneered the fast growing field of bacterial epigenomics (Nature Biotechnology, 2012). We also pioneered the use of DNA methylation for high resolution microbiome analysis (Nature Biotechnology, 2017). Recent work by us and others discovered that m6dA exists as a novel form of DNA methylation in mammalian genome (Nature, 2016), and multiple evidences suggests it has significant functions in human diseases. We have unique expertise in third generation sequencing (PacBio and Oxford Nanopore sequencing) with the advantages of super long reads (>20kb) and detecting different types of DNA and RNA modifications. We have rich experience developing innovative methods by integrating cutting edge technologies + wet lab experiments + advanced computational analysis.

The successful candidate will have unique opportunity to learn cutting edge technologies and protocols, participate and contribute to innovative research projects, and will also have the opportunity to pursue independent research projects related to the focus of the lab, and accumulate skills in bioinformatics and computational biology

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Illuminating and characterizing hidden DNA & RNA modifications in the bacterial and human genomes
  • Conducts routine and standardized experiments using advanced research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting moderately complex results
  • Performs assays to support research studies.
  • Assists in new and unexpected research experiments and techniques.
  • Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.

What You’ll Bring:
  • BS with at least 2 years of experience, or a MS degree.
  • Candidates with experience in any of the following are encouraged to apply: DNA/RNA isolation and manipulation, PCR/qPCR, bacterial or mammalian cell culture, chromatin/DNA Immunoprecipitation (IP), epigenetics etc. Experience in bioinformatics or sequencing would be beneficial but not necessary.
