What You’ll Do:
Mount Sinai’s Population Health and Analytics team is seeking a healthcare data science intern with both problem-solving and programming skills to assist in various data analytics and application development projects. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow and learn from business analysts, project managers, data analysts, data architects and others to gain an understanding of the existing IT ecosystem at Mount Sinai and a foundational knowledge of the health IT industry as a whole. This internship requires a self-driven candidate, who will have an opportunity to develop their data skill sets under the guidance of seasoned professionals and subject matter experts. The option to work on independent projects will be dependent upon managerial discretion.

Responsibilities: 
• Develop foundational knowledge of the information technology, data science, health informatics, and the US health care industry.
• Learn to design and implement data-driven applications and systems to achieve team and business stakeholder goals. 
• Build an understanding of the application lifecycle from initial development and planning, testing, implementation, support, and retirement.
• Interact with and support team members across the IT and business spectrum.
• Understand the multidisciplinary nature of IT teams, and be fluent in the individual roles and responsibilities of every team member as well as internal and external stakeholders.
• Apply basic knowledge in quantitative analysis and data munging toward healthcare datasets, and assist in preparing reports using SQL or other reporting tools. 
• Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept alongside and/or under the guidance of data engineers, analysts, and others.
• Review and comprehend official health care guidance, regulatory, and financial documents as needed. 

What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics.
