Mount Sinai Careers

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

New York, New York
Research

Job Description

We are inviting applications for two Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics or related fields with an interest in cardiometabolic traits and diseases.

By using genetics, we aim to understand the biology that underlies the susceptibility to obesity and its links to related cardiometabolic traits. We study common, low frequency and rare variants [1] in an ancestrally diverse population of >40,000 individuals recruited from throughout New York City through the Mount Sinai¹s ongoing BioMe EMR-linked Biobank, [2] in the large-scale UK Biobank (n = 500,000), and [3] in a unique discordant-sib family study.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a large portfolio of data collections (including EHR-linked, population-based, discordant-family designs) with high-density genotyping data (including whole exome sequencing (N~32,000) and whole genome sequencing (N~12,000), genome-wide and ExomeChip arrays (N~22,000)), to develop their own research projects, and to lead or participate in local as well as international collaborations (e.g. TOPMed, GSP).

The ideal candidate has a PhD or equivalent doctorate, a strong background in genetic epidemiology, epidemiology, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline and has demonstrated scientific productivity. Applicants should have a strong computational background, expertise with statistical genetic/bioinformatic software packages applied to large genomic data sets. S/he will be familiar with approaches to integrate biological information from a wide-range of (publicly available) data resources. Research experience in regulatory genomics and/or the genetics of obesity and cardiometabolic traits is a strong advantage.

You will be based at the main campus, which stretches from East 98th to 102nd Streets between Madison and Fifth Avenues on Manhattan's Upper East Side and Central Park.

To apply, please send CV and cover letter to Ruth Loos (ruth.loos@mssm.edu).
