Roles & Responsibilities:

A position is available in the Marlow Laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Marlow lab uses the zebrafish system to study germline development and polarity and maintenance of oocytes and sensory neurons.


The major responsibilities will include assisting with ongoing research. The primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing basic molecular and biochemistry techniques, including plasmid production and purification, preparation of buffers and other reagents
  • Performing dissection, basic histology and immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Maintenance of mutant and transgenic zebrafish lines
  • Isolation and purification of DNA from zebrafish embryos and adult fin samples
  • Performing microinjection of DNA and RNAs to generate mutant and transgenic lines
  • Performing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing to identify mutant or transgenic carrier zebrafish
  • Performing basic genetic crosses and analysis to identify and phenotypically score mutant or transgenic embryos
  • Bachelors degree in a biological or related science and relevant research experience in the field
  • Basic knowledge of genetics, cell biology, and molecular biology, and microscopy
  • Proficiency in computer skills and experience with database software (e.g. FileMaker Pro or other)
  • Experience with embryology and associated manipulations, including microinjection is preferred, but is not essential
