Associate Researcher, Metabolism Institute - Buettner Lab

Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease is seeking a research associate/trainee to work in the laboratory of Dr. Christoph Buettner whose lab focuses on studying brain control of metabolism using physiological study techniques such as euglycemic clamp techniques and brain infusions to assess whole body glucose and lipid homeostasis and inflammation in rodents. The laboratory is interested in studying a role of the brain energy homeostasis, lipid and glucose metabolism, the role of the autonomic nervous system in brain control of metabolism and tries to understand what goes wrong in obesity and diabetes. Prior experience in animal surgery (such as implanting catheters) and/or physiology would be welcome, but is not required. The ideal applicant is a recent college graduate who has done summer internships in a laboratory, has the ambition to learn new research approaches and techniques and should be a great team player. Supportive environment within dynamic team that will enable you to participate in cutting edge research to better understand diabetes, obesity and the role that the brain plays in these conditions. This is a great opportunity for a college graduates who wishes to go into medicine or graduate school and is willing to commit for two years or longer.
- Conducts routine and standardized experiments using appropriate research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project.
- Analyzes and assists in interpreting laboratory results of moderate complexity.
- Performs assays to support research studies.
- Maintains laboratory environment and assists in the upkeep of appropriate inventory; may include ordering of supplies.
- Logs and tests samples; prepares and submits laboratory materials and specimens for shipment.
- Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences required.
- Appropriate verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
