Roles & Responsibilities:
The social worker in this grant-funded position will be responsible for providing mental health counseling and comprehensive social work services to students and their families enrolled in the Mount Sinai School Based Health Program based in I.S. 45 Educational Campus located at 2351 First Avenue. This campus is comprised of River East Elementary School, 3K thru 5th, and Harlem Village Charter School, K thru 8th. The position is funded only for the ten month school year.
The social worker will provide long and short-term treatment to children/families with a range of social and mental health issues, conduct groups of both a therapeutic and health education nature, and help families negotiate entitlement programs and access comprehensive health care for their children. Interest and skill in developing and providing classroom based interventions and group work is important. Collaboration with the Board of Education and school personnel as well as Mount Sinai and school health staff is the cornerstone of this program and its work.
Flexibility, a capacity to work in a complex, informal structure, and an ability to adapt one’s work to the daily aspects of the school day and the school’s educational mission is essential.
New York LMSW required.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Knowledge of child and adolescent development as related to diagnosis, assessment and interventions as well as experience in providing parental guidance
Strong organizational and data management skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines in education/ health care systems
Demonstrated program planning and development skills
One to two years of experience working with young children and adolescents, especially in health and school based settings is preferred
