Job Title: Leave of Absence Analyst
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Leave of absence (LOA) analyst is the point person in benefits to resolve issues related to LOA. This individual acts as an intermediary between management, payroll and labor relations to facilitate the flow of information related to leaves and benefit entitlements as defined in state disability (NY DBL), the Federal Family Medical Leave Act, state leave programs (NYS Paid Family Leave), NYS Workers’ Compensation laws, NYC leave and other state or city regulations that may apply. The Leave of Absence (LOA) Analyst relies on knowledge of institutional policies, union rules, Federal, State and Local laws and guidelines to assist in the administration of leave of absence programs for our employees.
  • Manages reports to obtain necessary information related to leave of absence (LOA) activity. Ensures employees are reporting LOA to vendors appropriately.
  • Initiates contact with managers regarding employee requirement to report LOA and for supervisor to create appropriate LOA transaction.
  • Contacts the Leave of Absence Coordinator with employee information for any non- compliance issues.
  • Contacts vendors and or unions to clarify information to expedite administration of LOA.
  • Interfaces with staff, payroll, labor relations, and other departments when needed to expedite the leave process.
  • Interprets and applies specific policy and contractual language as it relates to the Federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); NY Paid Family Leave (NYPFL) and other state leave laws; New York City leave and sick laws; workers compensation and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Participates and/or initiates meetings and calls with LOA team and vendors as needed.
  • May assist with special projects, JCAHO and other survey preparations.
  • Mentors, trains and/or conducts orientation for new office staff and monitors performance.
  • Provides quality work while working on multiple tasks, adheres to deadlines and provides recommendations to improve processes.
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of applicable experience and education
  • 5 years related administrative or business experience required. Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • FMLA or Leave of Absence experience preferred.
