Job Title: Social Worker – School Based (10 month school calendar)
Roles & Responsibilities:
The social worker in this grant-funded position will be responsible for providing mental health counseling and comprehensive social work services to students and their families enrolled in the Mount Sinai School Health Program based in the Tito Puente Educational Complex, District 4, Esperanza/TAG. This is a school serving one talented and gifted program (K-8) and a MS/ HS with grades 6-12.
The social worker will provide long and short-term mental health treatment to children/families, conduct both therapeutic and classroom intervention groups, help families negotiate entitlement programs and access comprehensive health care for their children. Skill in individual and group work is important, as is interest and knowledge in working with grades K-12. Collaboration with Department of Education and school personnel as well as Mount Sinai and school health staff is the cornerstone of this program and its work.
Flexibility, a capacity to work in a complex, informal structure and an ability to adapt one’s work to the daily aspects of the school day and the school’s educational mission is essential.
New York State LMSW or LCSW.
Knowledge of child/adolescent development.
Childhood and adolescent DSM 5 mental health diagnoses and treatment.
Experience in providing parental guidance.
Strong program development and collaborative skills.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to work with and collaborate with multiple systems, including the DOE.
