Roles & Responsibilities:
A full-time Associate Researcher position is offered in the Rendl laboratory at the Black Family Stem Cell Institute and Department of Cell, Developmental and Regenerative Biology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Rendl laboratory explores the basic biology of stem cell niches using hair follicle development and regeneration as model systems. Genetic mouse models for cell isolation, molecular characterization, lineage tracing, 2-photon live imaging microscopy, and gene function studies are applied to study the cell fate specification of stem cell activating niche cells in skin. The successful candidate will work closely with a senior scientist in the laboratory. The key goal is to take over and finish the most promising established projects, following overlap with and guidance by a highly trained stem cell scientist, within a 2-year time frame. The applicant must be highly motivated, have good communication skills, and be eager to learn and excel with cutting-edge techniques and scientific approaches. Successful research has the potential for a lead authorship on resulting publications.
Training and Skills:
The applicant should have excellent knowledge of molecular and cell biology, and must have work experience with PCR, cloning and other molecular biology techniques. Experience with handling mice, mammalian cell culture, immunostaining, and flow cytometry is strongly preferred. The applicant should also have the ability to both work closely with a senior mentor and independently, and must be detail-oriented and keep excellent records. It is important that they are highly organized, able to focus on a single task, and take initiative to finish tasks and projects. The applicant must be flexible and willing to function in a fast-paced and changing work environment with a variety of people from different backgrounds. Proficiency in working with computers, MS Office, databases, and other software aiding laboratory organization is expected.
- Highly motivated individual with a B.S./B.A. in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent).
