Roles & Responsibilities: 


The Associate Researcher is an entry laboratory research position, responsible for conduct of routine and standardized experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or a senior researcher. This individual assists in the interpretation of research outcomes and may be responsible for lab and clerical support.

  • Under direct supervision, conducts routine and standardized experiments using appropriate research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project (cell culture, DNA analysis, recombinant protein expression and purification, protein analysis techniques)
  • Analyzes and assists in interpreting laboratory results
  • Performs assays to support research studies - assays will include purification of recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies, validation of these reagents by Western blot and ELISA, cell culture, virus production and DNA analysis. The position may also require some support for animal studies (mice)
  • Maintains laboratory environment and assists in the upkeep of appropriate reagent inventory; may include ordering of supplies, preparation of communal reagents and updating laboratory SOPs
  • Logs and tests samples; prepares and submits laboratory materials and specimens for shipment
  • Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, virology, immunology, biochemistry, or other relevant biological science topic. In addition to some practical experience, theoretical knowledge of microbiology, virology, immunology and molecular biology techniques will be required
  • Experience: 0-2 year of research/laboratory experience with practical wet lab expertise
  • Appropriate verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experience of using aseptic technique (microbial and cell culture)
  • Experience with gel electrophoresis and DNA/protein analysis including miniprep, maxiprep, PCR, cloning, ELISA and Western blot
  • Ability to use basic laboratory equipment including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, electronic balance, pH meter, fume hood and biosafety cabinets
  • Knowledge of virological and/or immunological methods will be an advantage
