Job Title: Immigration Specialist II
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Immigration Specialist II must be able to work in an environment that deals with immigration policies and regulations which are continuously evolving. This position contributes to the development of immigration processes by providing strategic oversight that will enhance best practices and improve the team's overall efficiency. The Immigration Specialist II will respond to correspondence with The Department of State, The Department of Homeland Security and other related governmental agencies for any issues or concerns regarding a non-immigrant visa category. This position supports the hospital policies and procedures on U.S. visa application process, understands current requirements, and remains abreast on recent developments and carrying out the responsibilities of the Exchange Visitor Program. This position reports to the Director of International Personnel in Human Resources.

  • Oversee the Department of State J-1 Exchange Visitor program for Research/Professor and Short Term Scholars and liaise as the Training Program Liaison with ECFMG for clinical J-1 scholars.
  • Administer individual orientation sessions to foreign nationals on how to maintain legal visa sponsorship.
  • Review proposed job descriptions and recommend appropriate visa classification for Foreign Nationals.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in immigration policies and based on customer needs develop relevant immigration programs
  • Prepare and submit annual reports to SEVIS and Dept of State pertaining to F-1 and J-1 foreign nationals
  • Complete Form I-9 employment eligibility verification and re-verification.
  • Coordinate implementation of efficient processes and raise areas for improvement to the Director (i.e. liaising with Post Doc Office, MSSM, Faculty, ECFMG, Dept of State, USCIS, US Embassies, and Consulates).
  • Execute initiative for various projects as delegated by the Director (overall department organizational functions).
  • Suggests policy improvements and assist in development and implementation of immigration policies for the institution.
  • Coordinate web site information maintenance in collaboration with staff.
  • Communicate policies and practices with institutional administrators to ensure effective processes (i.e. new hire processes).
  • Attend institution committee meetings as required to facilitate dialogue between departments. Participate and present at departmental educational seminars throughout the institution to provide updates and information about changes in immigration policies.
  • Ensures the monitoring of all J visa holders into Immigration tracker and SEVIS which partners with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State
  • Serves as a mentor for junior level staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Human Resources or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts from a 4 year accredited College or University. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of immigration is required.
  • Must exude team leadership and have strong interpersonal skills such as flexibility, diplomacy, and listening skills
  • Mature & empathetic professional
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high volume environment and utilize carefully developed procedures, advanced practice tools, and a state-of-the-art case management system.
  • Exceptional customer service, superb analytical and organizational skills are crucial
  • Knowledge of Immigration Tracker and tax treaty preferred
