Job Title: Supervisor, Patient Accounts
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Oversees functions and staff of the inpatient and/or outpatient accounting office to ensure effective billing operations within the confines of federal and state collections laws and third-party payer requirements with respect to health coverage and reimbursement
  • Masters critical hospital information systems (Eagle Onbase, Trac, etc..) as it relates to billing and follow-up functions performed in patient accounts
  • Makes effective contact with counterparts at payers and resolves issues affecting timely and accurate billing and reimbursement
  • Analyzes and reports on data using personal computing software (Word, Excel); create agendas and memorandum suitable for distribution through the organization
  • Conducts staff meetings to provide training, maintain awareness of department performance, and keep communication channels open
  • Analyzes staff and department performance reports to understand improvement opportunities; presents department results to upper management to communicate successes and areas for focused development
  • Monitors employee performance daily
  • Performs quality reviews, and provides feedback appropriately in a union environment to ensure adherence to training and proper staff actions
  • Identifies opportunities to improve performance and takes action to set and reach goals by distributing work appropriately among staff, prioritizing work effectively, and elevating barriers to upper management
  • Demonstrates leadership with employees by setting the direction in the department, upholding high standards of performance, enforcing human resources polices accurately and timely, recognizing and responding to exceptional performance and under-performance, and removing obstacles to achieving goals
  • Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
  • Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies
  • Identifies staff training needs and provides individualized and group training sessions for employees on an as-needed basis
  • Participates in the development of other staff members
  • Identifies learning strengths and needs
  • Utilizes learning resources
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service and educational programs
  • Builds and maintains interdepartmental relationships to facilitate processes involving coordination between two or more departments
  • Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
  • Communicates department and hospital policy and procedures to staff
  • Adheres to Mount Sinai’s legal and ethical standards
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned
  • Associate Degree or equivalent in business or related field
  • 3 years in administrative environment.
  • 1 year supervisory experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of computer billing systems 
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and supervisory skills
