Roles & Responsibilities: 


The Associate Researcher is an entry laboratory research position, responsible for conduct of routine and assisting in routine and standardized experiments using techniques specific to the assigned research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or a senior researcher. This individual typically conducts laboratory research and the position may include lab and clerical support. S/he analyzes and assists in interpreting research outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Castellano laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is looking for a full-time research associate/technician to start in Spring/Summer 2019. The lab is in the Department of Neuroscience and member of the Friedman Brain Institute and Ronald Loeb Center for Alzheimer’s disease. Our research focuses on understanding how interactions between the blood/immune system and the brain influence the degree to which the brain ages and becomes susceptible to neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. Successful candidates will join a growing and energetic team that uses sophisticated techniques including parabiosis, in vivo microdialysis, and next-generation sequencing to answer questions related to disorders of memory and cognitive function. 

We are seeking a highly-motivated, independent, and well-organized individual with a B.S./B.A. or M.S. in biological sciences, Neuroscience, or related disciplines. Work will include conventional molecular biology and in vivo methods, including mouse handling and husbandry, behavioral testing, DNA cloning, viral-mediated gene transfer, immunohistochemistry, managing relationships with vendors, organizing sample databases, etc. Previous experience in a laboratory setting with basic laboratory expertise is required (rodent handling and basic molecular biology techniques, e.g., PCR).
