Job Title: Financial Coordinator   

Roles & Responsibilities:

·         Financially screens transplant referrals, analyzes patients’ financial status, counsel patients on coverage benefits – medical / prescription and potential out of pocket liability.

·         Obtains transplant benefits, insurance verification and pre-certification

·         Meets with patients and family members at the time of transplant evaluation.  Explains the anticipated costs of a transplant including post-transplant medications.  Helps patients with their concerns and provides funding resources and advice when benefits are not sufficient to cover the transplant costs

·         Provides guidance when there are coverage lapses and serve as a resource to patients throughout the transplant process

·         Maintains contact with Payer Case Management and provides clinical information and updates to ensure transplant approvals are active and current.

·         Works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and alerts them of financial issues that possibly impact the patients’ ability to undergo transplant.

·         Communicates with the Hospital Managed Care teams when necessary to advise them of cases requiring negotiations of single case agreements. 

·         Reviews the caseload of patients on the waitlist monthly making sure that coverage is active

·         Participates in weekly transplant committee meetings to discuss the financial aspect of patients to be listed. 

Qualifications

·         High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. B.A degree is preferred.

·         Experience in the medical field including transplant finance or related experience

·         Comprehensive knowledge of insurance coverage

·         Knowledge of IT Systems and basic computer skills
