Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Technologist
The Histology Technician processes specimens leading to production of stained slides for diagnostic purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs histological techniques*:
a. Processing tissues: manual, microwave and automatic.
b. Embeds different types and sizes of tissues.
c. Section different types and sizes of tissues in preparation for stain.
d. Stains: routine H & E, Special stain manual and using automated equipment and IHC staining using DAKO Omnis, Ventana Benchmark and Leica Bond equipment for confirmatory reasons.
e. Cover slips stained tissue sections for archival purposes.
f. Labels stained slides for proper identifications and diagnostic purposes.
2. Files and retrieves blocks and slides.*
3. Quality control and Quality assurance activities.
4. Chemical supplies inventory.
5. Manages chemical and biological wastes.*
6. Performs other related duties.
·High School diploma/GED or more.
·ASCP certification preferred.
·5 + years of experience on the bench doing the basics in histo-technology such as fixation, processing, embedding, cutting, H & E staining, cover slipping, IHC and special stains. Excerts up to 10-15 lbs. of force.
·Must meet the general requirements of the Medical Center as defined in personnel policy 13.2.
·Maintains a neat and orderly appearance and must be punctual in attendance.
·Follows the policies of the Medical Center.
·Works with and handles Biohazard (TB, HIV, Hepatitis, etc.) and toxic chemicals.
·Tolerates allowable limit of chemical odor.
·Follows written and verbal instruction accurately and with good judgment.
·Learns new procedures as require.
·Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in working area.
NY State Clinical Laboratory Licenses: must have either
·Clinical Laboratory Technician or
·Certified Histology Technician
