Senior Director - Sterile Processing – Full Time

 
Roles & Responsibilities:
 

The Senior Director of Sterile Processing is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of personnel engaged in the production of patient care items for surgical and medical procedures. He/She manages the purchasing and production responsibilities to insure adequate quantity and quality of supplies. 

  • Develops, maintains and controls departmental capital and operating budget for supplies, expenses and inventory accounts.
  • Coordinates and communicates with administration and hospital departments to ensure the effective and efficient operations and distribution of supplies and services for patient care.  
  • Coordinates functions and sterile processing activities to comply with regulatory agency requirements. ie. Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). 
  • Prepares and monitors operating and capital budget funds annually. 
  • Interviews, recruits, and hires personnel in areas of responsibility. Completes employee performance appraisals, takes disciplinary actions and terminates personnel as required. 
  • Develops, implements, updates and directs maintenance of departmental policies and procedures manuals as they relate to Sterile Processing operations. 
  • Establishes and ensures maintenance of standards concerning decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Establishes standards for quality control and infection control within the department and continually evaluates standards for revision and up-dating as necessary.
  • Ensures maintenance of adequate supplies and equipment including evaluating requests for and ordering of new equipment.
  • Ensures proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment and arrange for repair or replacement as necessary.
  • Assists and counsels supervisors and departmental personnel concerning work related problems.
  • Directs preparation and maintenance of departmental records and reports to be used as references and analyzing tools. 
  • Works closely with departments utilizing sterile supplies in order to determine and evaluate need for new equipment or repair and replacement of equipment.
  • Ensures staff provides high quality infection control and patient focused services.
  • Maintains Membership with The American Society for Healthcare Central Service Professionals (ASHCSP) and/or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) preferred.
  • Ensures the development and delivery of required staff training using a competency-based assessment program. Evaluate and develop staff based on job-specific competencies. Evaluates how staff resources are allocated to support business activities and revenue cycle initiatives.
  • Coordinates with senior management on monitoring clinical activities to ensure cost-effective, high-quality health care for patients consistent with the mission and resources of the hospital.
  • Performs other related duties.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s preferred. 
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room and management/leadership roles required. Previous management experience required.  
  • Central Sterile certification
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician by International Associate Of Health Care Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)
