Roles & Responsibilities:
The Clinical Research Coordinator will work on two National Human Genome Research Institute-funded genomic pragmatic clinical trials. One study will recruit 1800 adults of African ancestry with hypertension to evaluate the impact of returning high-risk APOL1 genetic test results to patients and providers and explore the effect of pharmacogenomics guided hypertension management vs. standard hypertension management in APOL1 negative patients in the intervention.
The second study will recruit 900 diverse adults to determine if a genotype-guided approach to acute post-surgical pain therapy leads to improved pain control compared to usual care; determine if a genotype-guided approach to pain therapy in patients with chronic pain leads to improved pain control compared to usual care; determine if genotype-guided dosing or selection of antidepressants among patients with depressive symptoms who require new or revised antidepressant therapy leads to improved control of depression, compared to usual care.
• Recruiting patients from outpatient clinical settings into the studies
• Obtaining informed consent
• Collecting, maintaining and organizing study information using electronic databases
• Administering in-person/phone surveys as well as collecting clinical information such as participant blood pressure and blood or saliva samples
• Corresponding with study participants by telephone to schedule appointments and reminder calls for follow-up data collection
• Developing and maintaining relationships with clinic personnel at study recruitment sites
• Assisting in preparing study-related documents and maintaining study files
• Conducting literature searches and assisting in grant submissions and dissemination of study findings as needed
• Phlebotomy (training will be provided if not already certified)
• Assisting in all other daily activities of the research study (preparing mailings, study documents, reports, etc.)
• Willingness to travel across study sites in Manhattan and the Bronx
Hours are Full-time; Candidates must be able to flex their schedule as some evening and weekend hours are possible.
• Bachelor’s degree (BS, BA, etc.)
• Previous clinical research experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Access) required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
