Job Title: Buyer I 


The Buyer negotiates and places orders for small to moderately priced items and estimates value of merchandise based on knowledge of market prices.   This individual reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.   Responsible for the identification of opportunities for cost savings and quality improvement through effective negotiating techniques and sourcing of pricing.      


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Processes purchase orders for supplies, capitals, and services according to standard procedures and policies.
  • Selects, orders, and purchases, at the most favorable prices, merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification and other requirements.
  • Reviews vendor quotes and proposals to ensure compliance with health system terms.
  • Prioritizes placing orders based on department need and is responsive to time sensitive requests.
  • Works closely with vendors and requesters to obtain order confirmations and address backorders, discrepancies, and other exceptions. Expedites open orders, where necessary.
  • Guides requesters to place orders with contracted vendors and adjusts purchase orders accordingly.
  • Resolves ship/service holds, where possible and escalates as necessary.
  • Authorizes and processes return of merchandise.
  • Collaborates with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to requesting departments, vendors, accounts payable, and other Supply Chain teams.
  • Processes purchase requisitions through the materials management and e-commerce systems and utilizes all resources and technologies available to accurately process and confirm orders.
  • Meets Supply Chain metric targets, including but not limited to the number of purchase orders processed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in purchasing, retail management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience
  • 2 years of prior buying or related experience
