Job Title:  Social Worker – Oncology


Roles & Responsibilities:

This is a full-time position predominantly working in Gastrointestinal (GI) oncology in the Derald H. Ruttenberg Treatment Center, with an additional smaller outpatient assignment. The Center is committed to the comprehensive care of cancer patients, from initial diagnosis through follow-up. Oncologists on staff specialize in most forms of the disease. Patients are seen for consultation, second opinions and treatment at all stages of the disease.

The social worker in this position will provide psychosocial assessments and a full range of psychosocial interventions for GI Oncology patients and their families, both individually and in groups. The social worker will assist patients and their families with chronic illness, comfort care issues, treatment options, end of life care, and bereavement counseling. Interventions also include assistance with, e.g., entitlements, home care and pharmacy needs. The worker will have responsibility for maintaining and developing additional oncology support programs. Coverage includes other oncology services. 


New York State LMSW or LCSW.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Experience providing psychosocial services, both individual and group, to adult patients with cancer.
Knowledge of cancer resources in the community.
Skills in rapid psychosocial assessment and focused, short-term treatment.
Exceptional clinical, communication, collaborative, and organizational skills.
Program development experience preferred.
