POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Job Description

Strength Through Diversity

Ground breaking science. Advancing medicine. Healing made personal.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • We are looking for talented and enthusiastic graduate students and postdocs to join Dr. Jaime Hook’s Lung Imaging Laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, NYC. The Lung Imaging Lab is part of the Mount Sinai Departments of Medicine (Pulmonary Division) and Microbiology and the Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute. We offer a unique opportunity to be a part of both world-class research and urban communities.

We image live, intact mouse and human lungs to understand how inhaled influenza and S. aureus damage lung alveoli, the gas exchange units of the lung, and how pathogen-damaged alveoli repair and regenerate. We use the live imaging approach, in addition to other methods, to determine how interactions among alveoli, microvessels, and immune cells bear on these processes. Our overall goal is to develop new approaches to therapy for severe lung infection.

Requirements:
  • Graduate students and postdocs who are committed to 4-5 years of training are encouraged to apply. Postdocs should have an PhD, MD, or equivalent degree. A research background in host-virus or host-bacterial interactions in the lung would be helpful but is not required.Graduate students and postdocs who are committed to 4-5 years of training are encouraged to apply.
