Job Description

The Assistant Director Network Operations and Clinical Trials Research provides oversight and operational support for the Tisch Cancer Institute clinical trials mission across Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) sites and the Cancer Network. Reporting to the Executive Director Clinical Research Administration, the Assistant Director’s responsibilities include operational planning and serving as project leader on existing and new research initiatives across the enterprise and the network. These research initiatives include, but are not limited to, ongoing process improvement, performance metrics, dashboard reporting, policies and procedures for clinical trials. Required skill are; experience in clinical trial (regulatory or execution) project management, ability to communicate effectively, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders that contribute to the growth of research and clinical trials across MSHS sites and the cancer network.

 
Responsibilities:
  1. Provide oversight to coordinate scientific strategic and operational planning initiatives for  cancer clinical trials and research across the TCI, MSHS and its networks
  2. Identify clinical trial opportunities for different sites throughout the TCI, MSHS and cancer  network
  3. Perform a gap analysis of existing clinical research infrastructure and fill gaps in areas of  IRB, pharmacy, investigators, data management, IT infrastructure, clinical research staff and  others, as well as identify areas of opportunity, resources, growth and efficiencies
  4. Acts as a liaison between research administrative offices at MSHS and affiliates to identify opportunities to collaborate, share best practices with network affiliates.
  5. Work cooperatively with local investigators to set scientific strategy for cancer research,  open trials, train personnel, ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate enrollment
  6. Set strategic planning initiatives based on local patient populations, identify potential  trial opportunities for new trials and strategies to increase accruals
  7. Identify concepts and protocols for novel, early phase multi-disease site clinical trials  utilizing genomics and Mount Sinai cores including immune-oncology program
  8. Work with local CRNs/CRCs to pre-screen and identify patients for clinical trials
  9. Collaborate with local coordinators to evaluate local patients’ eligibility for potential enrollment into trials open at the main MSHS campus
  10. Institute an acceptable Quality Assurance Program at the network sites compliant with NCI  regulations for clinical affiliates
  11. Routinely audit system wide trials related to cooperative group studies with joint  participation to assure compliance with GCP & sponsor standards including AE/SAE reporting
  12. Provide training and education sessions to network affiliate research staff and physicians  when applicable
  13. Assure cooperative group deliverables are being met with network sites as affiliates for Alliance and NRG
  14. Help prepare for cooperative group audits and corrective action plans for data delinquencies
  15. Design and implement cancer enterprise-wide planning processes that will ensure proper alignment with organizational needs including the development of policy, procedures and  effective tools to internal and external stakeholders.
  16. Monitor and measure rollout of new initiatives to ensure successful execution of approved  plans and consistently update leadership in a timely and effective manner.
  17. Track, trend and analyze expected and forecasted performance of new initiatives and programs on a regular basis and make recommendations/lend support for necessary strategic changes.
  18. Leverage technology platforms, databases, reporting systems and other decision support  processes available at Mount Sinai and to facilitate access across enterprise and networks.
  19. Weekly meetings with Executive Director Clinical Research Administration and TCI Research Leadership and member of network sites’ research departments to review compliance and other  issues
  20. Schedule and participate in regularly scheduled strategic planning meetings to identify new  protocol opportunities and strategize on any potential challenges as well as Joint Steering Committee meetings with TCI, MSHS and network affiliates
  21. Collect and report on the Tisch Cancer Institute, the Health Care System and its networks  regarding performance metrics and dashboard reporting to executive leadership; make  recommendations for improvements; manage quarterly reporting requirements and presentations  to executive leadership.
  22. Additionally, as a project leader, this role will serve to ensure timely completion of tasks in line with project and enterprise objectives.
  23. Develop and manage contractual and organizational internal and external stakeholder’s expectations. Nurture internal and external stakeholder relationship and needs.
  24. Identify, document and manage project issues and escalate, as appropriate, to achieve  timely resolution.
  25. Work with CCTO Senior Leadership to coordinate research activities across the TCI, MSHS  and its networks according to institutional and other governing policies.
  26. Manager project deliverables by monitoring metrics.
  27. Mentor new physicians and staff members across the enterprise including the networks
  28. Prepare presentation materials for communication of findings in an accurate, clear and concise format and lead presentations for Senior Leadership and stakeholders as needed.
  29. Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies when applicable.
  30. All other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
 
Education:
  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
 

Experience:

  • 4+ years clinical research experience, preferably in oncology
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, written and presentation
  • Excellent organizational Skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Adept in the use of computers, MS applications, among other IT tools and applications
  • Customer service orientation
  • Commitment to individual and team success
