As part of the World Trade Center Health Program, the General Responder Data Center (DC) is charged with the oversight and coordination of the data management activities of five clinical centers of excellence (CCEs), which provide examinations and clinical assessments of the WTC Responders. The data gathered by the CCEs are centrally managed by the GRDC which is responsible for quality assurance, monitoring and coordination of the data collection, and analyses of the data. The DC also plays an integral role in analyzing these data. The Senior Data Analyst oversees activities related to data integrity, security and enhancement of the value of the data including data cleaning and manipulation, query tracking, and implementing policies and procedures. The Senior Data Analyst may direct the movement of data across multiple systems, oversee data validation and organization, and make certain that the data are available to appropriate people and systems.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Analyzes, summarizes, and visualizes data from a variety of sources in epidemiological surveillance and routine reporting efforts; assist faculty and staff with queries, statistical analyses, reports and technical difficulties related to data retrieval and usage
- Implements best practices in data management to ensure the integrity and quality of data and processes; deliver analyzable or analyzed data to internal and external researchers/clients of the Medical Center
- Translates, merges, cleans, and maps data into conceptual, logical and physical data models; document, maintain, and recommend methods to improve data processing, distribution, and flow procedures
- Uses modeling techniques and tools in analyzing and specifying data structure in large and/or complex data sets
- Recommends best practices for data transformations to support the data movement. Defines data migration requirements, gathering, validating and documenting data requirements
- Oversees all activities related to data cleaning, data quality and data consolidation using appropriate standards and processes
- Identifies, develops, and documents data standardization, data enrichment operations, data validations, data security requirements, and data exception handling processes
- Documents, implements, maintains or recommends operating methods to improve processing, distribution, data flow, collection, database editing procedures
- May define parameters for file or space utilization
- Ability to work independently and to work closely with Data Center leadership, supervisors and staff
- May access data in the Data Warehouse, as required
- May assist faculty and staff with queries, statistical analyses, reports and technical difficulties related to data retrieval
- May design and write custom applications needed to ensure the database meets requirements for the entry, management and reporting of data
- Recognizes recurring issues and analyzes causes in order to reach a solution. Generates plans and provides tools/techniques for improvement and to measure success
- Trains staff with varying degrees of knowledge to effectively use the database system
- Maintains knowledge of the current regulations and technologies related to data management
- May write and prepare manuscripts and other materials for internal and external audiences
- Performs other related duties
- Education: Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or in a social science with a heavy emphasis on quantitative data analysis
- Experience: 3 to 4 years of experience using SAS® (preferred) or another statistical software package (R/SPSS/STATA) to work with large and complicated data sets (e.g., data manipulation, data analysis, or data cleaning), preferably in a medical or healthcare setting
- Advanced knowledge of database applications /
management, SQL and /or SAS
Intermediate MS Office (Word, Excel), Access, Outlook
Experience with SQL relational database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) preferred
