Job Title: Mechanic A (HVAC/Controls)


The Mechanic A (HVAC) evaluates, diagnoses, and performs basic repair and planned maintenance (PM) on medical facility-related systems and equipment, with an emphasis on HVAC systems Maintenance. The Mechanic A drives customer satisfaction through Service Excellence and maintains excellent customer relations through clear, concise, and continuous communications.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Monitors HVAC system performance via computer (BMS) system and make adjustments as required.
  2. Evaluates basic operational and controls issues for all HVAC equipment. Takes probative steps to keep all systems operating within the desire/established parameters.
  3. Works with others or alone in the troubleshooting and repair of HVAC equipment as required.
  4. Performs planned maintenance (PM) as assigned, including control system calibrations, the maintenance of fan drive systems, heating and cooling coils, condensate removal systems, ect.
  5. Performs safety and environmental inspections as assigned.
  6. Wears pager and or carries walkie-talkies or cell phone furnished by Hospital and responds promptly to all requests initiated by the Supervisor or work control.
  7. Follows appropriate hospital policies, procedures and protocols, and completes necessary documentation as assigned. Documents work in detail as specified by management to ensure that an accurate history of maintenance and repair can be maintained.
  8. Ensures proper care of spares, tools and test equipment.
  9. Maintains technical knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
  10. Makes decisions based on clear instructions and operational rules and procedures, and escalates issues to management as appropriate.
  11. Meets Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety requirements and/or all other applicable regulatory requirements.
  12. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.*
  13. Must be able to work at heights*
  14. Must be able to carry and climb a 6 foot ladder. *
  15. Must be able to work independently.
  16. Performs other duties as required.





  • High School Diploma/GED required,
  • Trade school certificate preferred
  • Associates degree in electronic technology, Environmental control or Mechanical Technology highly desirable
  • 1 year of general mechanical repair experience. 1 Year of military electronic or HVAC fan and control system desirable.

Certification required:

·         Able to obtain Certificates of Fitness from FDNY for Torch Use and Fire Guard.

Minimum Computer Skills:

·         Able to use an I-Pad devise, Laptop or Desk Top Computer for management of Computerized Work Order. Able to use BMS Computer for DDC Controls.

General Skills:

·         Experience with Air Distribution Systems, Pneumatic and Digital Controllers and control Systems. Etc. Able to solder and braze using torch.
