Job Description

A. Clinical/Technical/Service
  1. Inspects, repairs, maintains and operates refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to determine that all are functioning properly
  2. Maintains HVAC log, when on watch, which reflects all changes in the HVAC and air conditioning systems
  3. Adjusts all systems in order to keep best efficiency and peak operation for all HVAC and refrigeration equipment including flows, electrical, steam, etc. and with support equipment, such as air compressors, motor pumps, etc
  4. Monitors changes in the outside environment, either acting on or recommending changes concerning the air conditioning and refrigeration units, such as starting, stopping
  5. Maintains the building automation systems, the operation, routine service and makes adjustments when needed
  6. Performs functions in the fire brigade including responding with the fire brigade cart to all fires, drills, alarms, or calls relating to such safety
  7. Assists Stationary Engineer in the responsibilities of the Watch
    B. Organizational/Managerial
  8. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities
  9. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
    C. Educational/Professional Development
  10. Participates in the development of other staff members
  11. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements
  12. Identifies learning strengths and needs
  13. Utilizes learning resources
  14. Assists in training of refrigeration mechanics, assistants and aides
    D. Communication/Relationships
  15. Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others
  16. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
  17. Adheres to Continuum’s legal and ethical standards
  18. May be required to perform other duties as assigned

Graduate or equivalent and an accredited associate degree in air conditioning technology.
Six months as a licensed refrigeration operator.  Three to five years as an assistant refrigeration operator or equivalent.
Must possess a current, valid NYC Unlimited Tonnage Refrigeration and Air Conditioning License.
