Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Clinical/Technical/Service
  1. Performs 2D, M-Mode and Dopplers Echocardiography with video and hard copy recordings (Average of 4-6 studies per day)
  2. Performs all required calculations
  3. Performs all necessary paperwork (Echo report form, billing form, videotape log sheet, billing log sheet, patient logbook)
  4. Provides documentation of pertinent patient clinical history
  5. Performs and records exercise and pharmacological Stress Echocardiograms
  6. Assists in the training of echocardiography students assigned for clinical rotation to the lab
  7. Cleans room and transducers promptly after the completion of each patient
  8. Assists in the general maintenance of the echo lab by collecting and disposing of soiled laundry at the end of the shift
  9. Reports the need for supplies in a timely fashion to the supervisor
  10. Assists with restocking of supplies and laundry
  11. Calls for laundry as necessary
  12. Reports equipment problems immediately to biomed and the supervisor and documents all problems in the equipment repair log
  13. Moves and uses all equipment with extreme care of all transducers, EKG and electrical cables
  14. Prepares and deals with daily scheduling of patients
  15. Retrieves previous patient reports as necessary
  16. Contributes to performance improvement programs of BIMC
  17. Demonstrates cost awareness and containment in the cost effective utilization and proper care and maintenance of hospital and departmental supplies and equipment
  18. Adheres to departmental scheduling and overtime policies
  19. Demonstrates efficient computer skills
  20. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
    Age Specific Competencies (Neonate/Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric)
    1. Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group
    2. Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment
    3. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs
    4. Uses communication techniques which are age appropriate
      B. Organizational/Managerial
  21. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities
  22. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
  23. Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies
  24. Reports to the Cardiology Technical Manager and Echo Supervisor
    C. Educational/Professional Development
  25. Participates in the development of other staff members
  26. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements
  27. Explains all procedures to the patient and evaluates teaching effectiveness through feedback from the patient
  28. Utilizes the family as a resource for information
  29. Identifies learning strengths and needs
  30. Utilizes learning resources
  31. Attend continuing education or hospital sponsored in-service programs and job-related educational programs
    D. Communication/Relationships
  32. Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others
  33. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
  34. Adheres to Continuum’s legal and ethical standards
    E. Other
  35. May be required to perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Graduate of a CAHEA accredited Ultrasound or Cardiovascular Technology program.  An Associate's Degree is required, a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
Six months or equivalent clinical training.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
RDCS or RCVT or registry eligible with completion of registry within one year of hire.
