III.  DESCRIPTION OF COMPETENCIES

A. Clinical/Technical/Service
 
 
 
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks:
 
 
 
  • replace/install all types of sinks. faucets, toilets, flushometrrs, urinals, commodes. bedpan washers, showers, bathtubs, water fountains, exposed drain piping, traps and filters.Add additional Clinical/Technical/Service/Administrative tasks here.
  • clear clogged drains for sinks, toilets, showers and bathtubs, floor drains etc. with a plunger, auger, hand snake and/or a drain cleaner.
  • clear major blockages for sanitary and storm drain lines using a power snake and/or removing section of pipe at blockage location.
  • Clean building main house traps as required.
  • Install and make minor repairs to sewage ejector pumps.
  • install different types of pipe including cast iron no hub, sch 40 steel, brass, copper, victaulic, galvanized and PVC using appropriate methods of joining pipe.
  • install/repair different type of valves and actuators including gate, globe, ball, butterfly, control, regulating, and 3-way valves, and pneumatic, electronic and self contained actuators.
  • operate steam systems including reducing stations, different types of steam traps, condensate pumps, vacuum condensate pumps, and condensate ejector pumps.
  • operate, maintain, repair and replace steam and gas hot water heaters.
  • Practice safety measures while using hand tools, power tools, power snakes, torches and drain cleaners.
  • Respond to emergency situations including but not limited to floods, smoke alarms, odors etc.  Responsible to keep shop area and tools clean and organized. Responsible for securing tools and equipment to prevent theft.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.

IV.   EDUCATION REQUIRED
      High School or Trade/ Vocational School diploma specializing in plumbing.   or completion of a training program recognized by BIMC. 
V.    EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
  1. Minimum of 5 years experience in plumbing.
  2. Use basic specialized technical skills to perform work, general mechanical skills
  3. Have knowledge of brazing and metal cutting.
  4. Understand code requirements for different types of piping systems, including sanitary, storm, steam, condensate, domestic water, standpipe and sprinkler.
  5. Knowledge of the domestic water system including water meters, backflow preventers, domestic water pumps, house tanks and valves.
  6. Knowledge of the standpipe and sprinkler systems including location of zone valves and Siamese connections. Ability to use hand and power tools required for the plumbing trade.
  7. Ability to read and understand blue prints and drawings for plumbing systems.
    VI.   LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    Posses or be able to obtain all certificates or licenses as may be required by Federal State or local codes.  Specifically (but not limited to) FDNY certificate of fitness for Sprinkler and Standpipe systems.  Must have certificate of fitness for Oxygen and Acetylene.
    VII.  JOB HAZARDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  8. Exposure to industrial power and portable cutting tools/welding/brazing tools.  Use of Safety devices required (blade guards etc.)\
  9. Exposure to volatile and /or corrosive chemicals.  Use of personal protective gear required
  10. Dust and particulate conditions exist / Use of goggles dust masks etc. required
  11. Heavy lifting of material stock / requiring use of dollies, hand trucks etc.
  12. Perform work throughout entire Medical Center
  13. May also be required to work in satellite buildings.
