Job Title:Physician Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Clinical/Technical/Service 
1. Performs medical history
2. Performs complete physical exams
3. Orders diagnostic tests and interprets
4. Develops management and care plans with physicians
5. Orders appropriate medications
6. Arranges appropriate referrals to specialists
7. Coordinates multi-disciplinary care
8. Interprets and records patient's response to therapeutics
9. Instructs patient and family on prevention and maintenance in health care
10. Identifies community resources and assists utilization
11. Assists Medical Doctor in Operating Room procedures
12. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
     Age Specific Competencies (Neonate/Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric)
a. Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group
b. Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment
c. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs
d. Uses communication techniques which are age appropriate
B. Organizational/Managerial
13. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities
14. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
15. Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies
C. Educational/Professional Development
16. Participates in the development of other staff members
17. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements
18. Identifies learning strengths and needs
19. Utilizes learning resources
D. Communication/Relationships
20. Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others
21. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
22. Adheres to Continuum’s legal and ethical standards
23. May be required to perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIRED
B.S. from accredited P.A. program.
EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
5+ years in Department of Surgery.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
New York State License
