Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

A.    Clinical/Technical/Service

1.     Takes and monitors patient vital signs

2.     Performs phlebotomy

3.     Assists physicians with routine and diagnostic treatment procedures

4.     Records vital signs, lab results and procedures in patient charts as requested by the physician

5.     Performs routine maintenance on medical equipment when possible

6.     Exhibits friendly, courteous and helpful behavior when interacting with patients and physicians

7.     Assists in the training of new staff as directed

8.     Follows infection control practices to maintain environment

9.     Performs daily inspection of patient rooms before and after patient examination

10.  Reports any changes observed in patient condition or behavior as well as any unusual incidents

11.  Collects specimens and routes to appropriate laboratory

12.  Assists with the inventory and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment

13.  Administers immunizations to patients as requested by physicians

14.  Retrieves/files patient files and x-rays on a daily basis

15.  Answers routine questions and assures appropriate intake forms are completed properly and in a timely manner

16.  Reports appropriately and in a timely fashion to regulatory agencies

17.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

a. Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group

b.Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment

c. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs

d.Uses communication techniques, which are age appropriate

B.    Organizational/Managerial

18.  Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities

19.  Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information

20.  Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies

C.    Educational/Professional Development

21.  Participates in the development of other staff members

22.  Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements

23.  Identifies learning strengths and needs

24.  Utilizes learning resources

D.    Communication/Relationships

25.  Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others

26.  Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community

27.  Adheres to Continuum’s legal and ethical standards

28.  May be required to perform other duties as assigned

 


EDUCATION REQUIRED

High school Diploma or Equivalent. Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
