II.   PURPOSE

To provide nutrition services as an integral component of health care primarily in the out-patient nutrition clinic to include developing and implementing a nutritional care plan and providing individual or group instructions.    Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department and the Hospital Center.

A. Clinical/Technical/Service
 
 
 
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks:
 
 
 
  • Assesses nutritional status including biochemical and clinical measures as well as nutrient and energy requirements.



  • Develops nutrition care plans and counsels patient and involves other concerned persons in the nutrition principles of the prescribed diet, adapting the diet plan to the individual’s lifestyle.



  • Documents care plan and progress in medical record as well as recommending appropriate follow-up.



  • Conducts nutrition classes to patients and evaluates effectiveness.  Plans for alternate mehods and/or systems for nutrition education (programmed, audio-visual) when appropriate.



  • Develops and utilizes educational materials for use in teaching.



  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigened area.

  • Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.



  • Identifies learning strengths and needs

  • Participates in training and evaluation of dietetic interns.

IV.   EDUCATION REQUIRED

      Master’s degree. 

V.    EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED

      1 year experience in hospital therapeutics.  Bi-Lingual preferred.
