Job Title: Per Diem S.A.F.E. Examiner

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

A.   Clinical/Technical/Service

·         Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.

·         Conducts comprehensive medical and forensic examinations to sexual assault patients in the LS, RH, or BI Emergency Department.

·         Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of specific forensic technology (i.e. colposcope, photography, etc.)

·         Demonstrates knowledge of child protection, sexual assault and domestic violence protocols.

·         Provides court testimony as provider and expert witness when appropriate.

·         Maintains appropriate patient care documentation as defined by hospital policies and procedures.

·         Advocates for patients and families by interpreting their needs to, and eliciting cooperation from, other disciplines and community agencies.

·         Participates in Interdisciplinary supervisory and team meetings.

·         Demonstrates ability to make decisions, solve clinical problems and manage resources.

·         Demonstrates sensitivity to patient/family cultural background.

·         Effectively represents CVTC’s philosophy and policy in the ED and to other departments and community agencies.

·         Is able to identify, select, access and make referrals to appropriate resources.

·         May supervise SAFE examiners in training.

·         Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.

·         Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group.

·         Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment.

·         Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs.

·         Uses communication techniques that are age appropriate.

 

B.   Organizational/Managerial

·         Schedules on call shifts prior to the beginning of each month

·         Responds to ED in acceptable time period

·         Completes and submits service report within 24 hours

·         Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information

·         Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures.

 

C.   Educational/Professional/Development

·         Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.

·         Identifies learning strengths and needs

·         Participates in the  NYS DOH approved Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner training program

·         Maintains expertise with advanced training seminars

·         Understands and adheres to professional Code of Ethics

·         Is able to apply the necessary knowledge and skills in the performance of job requirements.

·         May participate in appropriate research staff development and community liaison activities.

 

D.   Communication/Relationships

·         Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families, significant others and members of the hospital staff and community.

·         Anticipates, identifies and alerts SAFE medical director of developing problems with cases and in systems.

·         Utilizes supervisory suggestions and criticism in an objective manner.

·         Demonstrates ability to work as a team member with rape crisis advocate, auxiliary staff and others relevant to the patient and the provision of good care.

·         Functions in a consultative and educative capacity with all pertinent individuals or agencies who/which might impact on patient and families.

·         Translates diagnostic and treatment concepts into clear, concise, and useful written records.

 

Requirements:

·         MD, NP, RN or PA from an accredited educational institution required.

·         Completion of at least 40 hours of S.A.F.E. training from a NYS DOH approved curriculum required.

·         NYS license from a respective profession/Board Certified when appropriate required

·         At least 1 year of clinical practice in respective profession

·         Must pass competency requirements through SLRHC S.A.F.E. post training/precepting program.
