Job Title: Manager Social Work
Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards objectives and policies of the Department and Hospital Center.
-Evaluates program needs, planning implementation and utilization of social work services.
-Provides and/or insures provision of social work services to patients and families receiving care in the division of palliative care and discharge planning.
-Directs clinical services-case work, crises intervention, group and family intervention, problem solving, referrals and resources, care coordination, entitlements and discharge planning.
-Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings in the division of palliative care.
-Participates in the division of palliative care committees focused on program planning and improved patient care.
-Assists in training and educational experiences of department fellows and observers.
-Coordinates social work educational initiatives including: managing and supervision the social work fellowship program, overseeing all aspects of social work fellowship (hiring, mentoring, assuring competency of fellows), working with department staff to ensure the educational content, seek financing and marketing opportunities.
-Managing the social work listserv, a national and international education and networking project for social workers involved in end of life and palliative care, including responsibility for content, technical and marketing aspects in collaboration with division of palliative care we resource expert.
-Planning, marketing, staffing, and seeking funding for social work educational conferences working with department and development office staff.
-Submit abstracts, publishes, and teaches at national conferences and workshops, expanding knowledge base of social workers in the areas of pain, palliative, and end of life care.
-Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
-Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
-Participates in social work staff meetings, including organizing presentation regarding social work in pain and palliative care.
-Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families, and significant others.
-Displays courtesy, tact, and patience during interaction with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.
-Acts as liaison between medical provider, nursing staff, and other Medical Center departments.
-Communicates established protocols with other employees.
-Acts as a liaison between the palliative care division and department of social work.
-May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker required.
EXPERIENCE AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
1. LCSW required. Knowledge of word processing, excellent typing skills, and ability to work independently.
2. Two to five years of related palliative care experience with progressive responsibility.
3. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of Medical Center staff and patients.
4. Analytical skills to resolve problems and appropriate referrals.
5. Abilities to prioritize duties and responsibilities.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
