Job Title: Sr. Director, Construction
 
 
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Sr. Director of Construction is responsible for managing the portfolio of short, mid and long-term construction projects for Mount Sinai Health System hospital and non-hospital properties.  The Director of Construction will report directly to the Vice President for Planning, Design and Construction and work closely with the Director for Planning and Design.  The current annual capital plan includes many projects at many sites of varying complexity.  You will help transform the Facilities Division into a premier metropolitan healthcare construction management division as we continue to bring large technically complex projects in on time and within budget while meeting regulatory compliance standards.  This will be a very active and engaging period as we use improved technologies that increase productivity, improve efficiency, minimize risk and control costs. 
Working closely with the Director of Planning and Design, physicians, administrators, hospital leadership and senior executive staff, the Director of Construction will manage the portfolio of all projects in construction.  The candidate will:
  • Coordinate the activities of construction managers and contractors to ensure that projects are delivered as designed and that the configuration fits the client’s needs
  • Develop and track project budgets taking appropriate action when necessary to ensure adherence to budgetary limitations as well as to ensure projects stay on schedule
  • Coordinate with IT
  • Helps coordinate moving clients into new space
  • Ensure that project management staff follow all appropriate departmental policies and procedures
  • Work with the Vice President to establish performance indicators for staff and Projects and monitor performance against those standards
  • Help develop a compelling training program for staff.
      
    Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years managing a large and complex construction program for a hospital, university or other similar institution
  • At least 5 years experience in a managerial capacity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Registered architect or licensed engineer a plus.
