Job Title: Assistant Manager Billing



Roles & Responsibilities:

A. Clinical/Technical/Service

1.     Oversees all aspects of the billing function

2.     Supervises billing staff on a daily basis

3.     Assures surgical, speech and office visit  authorizations are in-place

4.     Takes a proactive approach in detecting potential problems related to charges, billing and collection of accounts

5.     Responsible for the maximization of revenue and receivable management

6.     Oversees the day to day billing and receivable operations

7.     Responsible for data entry of all patient charges, payments and adjustments

8.     Responsible for the submission of all insurance claims to carriers (including electronic submission)

9.     Generates and mails billing invoices to patients monthly

10.  Responds to and resolves patient billing issues

11.  Responsible for monitoring regulation and coding issues, keeping current regarding trends in the field

12.  Responsible for the day to day administration and troubleshooting of billing software (medical manager)

13.  Responsible for running monthly billing activity reports

14.  Compiles, maintains and analyzes faculty practice statistical reports

15.  Responds to all attending inquires regarding faculty practice payments

16.  Works with front end staff to educate in billing protocols and correct receipt of billing information     

17.  May oversee  work of billing specialist and front end staff regarding billing issues

18.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

a. Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group

b.Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment

c. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs

d.Uses communication techniques which are age appropriate

B. Organizational/Managerial

19.  Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities

20.  Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information

21.  Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies

22.  Supervises and monitors the work flow of the billing staff

23.  Promotes and adapts to change and the process of improvement

24.  Able to recognize and deal with priorities

25.  Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action

C. Educational/Professional Development

26.  Participates in the development of other staff members

27.  Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements

28.  Identifies learning strengths and needs

29.  Utilizes learning resources

30.  Attends seminars and conferences relevant to managed care, Medicare and New York State statues

31.  Attends seminars and reads articles keeping abreast of current trends in billing

32.  Shares all relevant billing information with appropriate staff

33.  Participates in staff meetings and makes positive contributions

34.  Works well with administrator and chairman

D. Communication/Relationships

35.  Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others

36.  Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community

37.  Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff and maintain composure during stressful periods

38.  May be required to perform other duties as assigned




·         Associates degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·         3-5 years of medical billing experience; Supervisory experience preferred, knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding, and ability to generate and integrate various reports.

·         CPC preferred
