A. Clinical/Technical/Service
  • Admitting Responsibilities:

- Obtains & confirms necessary signatures on required forms

- Assembles medical records & obtains old medical records

- Secures patient valuable

- Notifies MD, Nurses and other staff of information as indicated

- Obtains ID band & places on patient
- Obtains & verifies face sheet data
  •  Tests, Treatments, Procedures:
- Transcribes physician orders
- Orders special equipment

- Schedules intra-hospital tests, procedures, appropriate transportation & equipment needed for transportation

- Assist with transportation as required ( Cardiac Catheterization Lab Only)

  •  Stock/ Supplies:

- Orders & maintains appropriate clerical stock & supplies

-  Responsible for pneumatic tube stations,receiving & sending specimens, medications,                      etc., and keeping tubes stocked.

  •    Receptionist:

-  Meets/greets patient/family/visitor in pleasant manner

- Orients patient/family to floor/hospital

- Answers telephones/intercoms

- Follow-up on general needs of patient and family

  • Clerical:

- Coordinates patient admissions, discharges and transfers with all team members

- Maintains computer systems in patient care areas

- Sorts reports/notices/orders

- Communicates discharges & transfers with support service departments

- Schedules post discharge appointments and transportation (i.e., PACC, private offices & diagnostic tests)

- Notification of bed holds for nursing home patients

- Prepares birth/death certificates with demographic information

- Coordinates notary public assistance for patients

- Maintains notation of patient’s location on & off the floor

- reviews OR & test schedules, changes for patients & communicates with 

appropriate caregiver

- Communicates with MD/RN regarding emergency situations/STAT lab reports

- Appropriately utilizes supplies & equipment in a cost effective manner

- records & maintains minutes of unit meetings & other care/service area data.

- Sends and receives faxes

 
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.

B. Organizational/Managerial
  • Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
 
C. Educational/Professional Development
  • Participates in the development of other staff members.
  • Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Identifies learning strengths and needs and utilizes learning resources
  • Actively participates in care team meetings. & is a contributing member to select committees/teams.
  • Participates in staff/manager and peer performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrates competence in utilization of information systems.
 
D. Communication/Relationships
  • Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients,
      families and significant others.
  • Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff
      and extended community.
  • Practices as a member of the interdisciplinary care team via effective and respectful communication and collaboration.
  • Follows spoken and written directions and responds appropriately to constructive feedback.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the management of clerical tasks, activities and coordination of service area communication and information.

 


Requirements:


  • Ability to read and write English at 10th grade level.
  •   Ability to perform math at 9th grade level.

  • V.    EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
    • Typing skills at 35 wpm.
    • Basic computer and fax skills.
    • Effective interpersonal skills (communication, customer service, telephone skills).
    • Effective organizational and problem solving skills.
