Job Title: Staff Nurse PICC

Job Summary:

Guided by a comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice, applies the nursing process and is accountable for the nursing care of a designated group of patients during an assigned tour of duty.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Nursing assessment is based on interview, examination, observation and review of records of the patient.
  • Identified patients appropriate for PICC line insertion
  • Nursing actions are consistent with the care plan and medical regimen and hospital procedures
  • Utilizes advanced skills to place peripherally inserted central venous catheters for those select patients.
  • Demonstrates a competent level of technical skill in the removal of PICC lines
  • Collaborates with other healthcare providers to establish reliable venous acess
  • Completes documentation of insertion, patient teaching and any complication or untoward event in the Medical Record as per policy
  • Assists floor staff with troubleshooting complications, concerns or problems associated with PICC lines
  • Performs product evaluation and keeps informed of new products
  • Maintains and disseminates quality improvement data
  • Communication of information to the patient is based on the patient's level of awareness and readiness to learn
  • Graduation from an accredit nursing program.  Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in NYS.
  • Documented previous experience, or educational preparation to support credentials.
  • Successful completion of a PICC insertion course.
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience.
Work Environment:
Possible blood and body fluid exposure
Lifting/positioning of patients.
