Roles & Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for managing the billing and collection activities of the department
  • Generates financial and statistical reports of departmental activity and productivity  
  • Prepares all necessary billing for patients and insurance companies
  • Places calls and prepares correspondence and follow-up requests to patients and insurance companies o ensure payment within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the department
  • Processes and performs follow-up on rejections from insurance companies in a timely manner



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.


    3 - 5 years professional billing experience required, Ophthalmology preferred.

  • Experience in a computerized billing system required, preferably IDX. 

  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding required, including modifiers.

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately record financial information required.

  •  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff, and to withstand the pressures that may arise in the performance of job responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and to deal calmly with individuals under stress.  

  • Prior supervision experience helpful.  

  • Capable of using word processing programs e.g. Word, WordPerfect.  Aptitude for math.  Good organizational skills.
